Considered the most important collection of Chilean painting, along with that of the National Museum of Fine Arts.
With the acquisition of works by local artists, and without any defined criteria, the Chilean painting collection at the University of Concepción began to form in the 1950s, which would become its famous Pinacoteca, with the arrival of the painter Tole Peralta, in 1954, as director of the Free Academy of Fine Arts of the traditional university campus, vital nucleus of the social and cultural life of the capital of Bío-Bío.
The important donation of a set of works from the so-called Generation of '13, belonging to Mr. Julio Vásquez Cortés, constitutes the basis of the collection that today amounts to 1,800 originals and that, over the years, has been increasing with the Acquisition of works by the most prominent Chilean or foreign authors who have carried out their artistic production in Chile, including, although with some gaps, the most representative exponents of national contemporary art.

By plane
Daily flights depart from Santiago at the Arturo Merino Benítez Airport. The duration of the flight is 1 hour.
By car
It can be reached from Chillán to the southwest by Route 5 South, it is 15 km., And then to the west by Route 152. In total there are 112 km. on asphalt road.
It can be reached from Los Angeles to the north by Route 5 south to the town of Cabrero and from there to the northwest. In total there are 130 km. on asphalt road.
By bus
Buses leave every 1 hour from the main terminals in Santiago, the trip takes 6 hours. From regions there are daily departures, you should check with the respective road terminals.
The Pinacoteca of the University of Concepción, brings together a spectacular set of works, with about 1800 originals from the colony to the present day.
