The sun beat on the yellow poplars in the fall, which reached the house where Myriam Amand de Mendieta received me. His in-laws bought this farm in 1951 to plant alfalfa and planted only a few apple trees for family consumption. Only in 1975, they decided to put the first cherry trees to sell. When desertification broke the price of alfalfa, the production of fine fruit came first.

Today they have 48 hectares cultivated, of which 12 are only cherry trees. Primarily, they are dedicated to pigeon heart cherries, hazelnuts, apples, plums, pears and apricots.



The sweets also suffered the same fate. Myriam first began to make them, with her mother's recipes, for the consumption of an increasingly large family. Then he began to market them with great success.

The main hall of the house shows its original creations: pears in vinegar, sweet apples with hazelnuts and raisins, apricot jam, Miryam's favorites.

Winner of the best cherry jam 2004 and best garden 2005, the El Paraiso sweets are sampled at the Los Notros tea tables, the distinguished inn in El Calafate, among other places.





I crossed the bridge over the Los Antiguos River and continued on my way to the border. On the detour before the gendarmerie station, I turned right and followed the signs that indicated "El Paraíso".





It is the best approach in the summer and visit the countryside with the grandchildren of Miryam who officiate guide, walk to the border property reference point and reach the viewpoint of Jeinimeni river. And before leaving, gather several jars of jams, preserves and liqueurs that arrive until the next visit to the farm.
