It belongs to the Compañía de Ascensores Mecánicos de Valparaíso and was inaugurated on December 1, 1883, being the first to settle in the city. Its construction and financing was in charge of the Company of Mechanical Elevators, founded in 1882, by Don Liberio E. Brieba Pacheco.
It is located between 10 and 45 meters above sea level. It has a length of rails of 70 meters and its journey is 45 seconds. It connects Prat street of the city plan, with Paseo Gervasoni.
This elevator was built responding to the communication needs with the upper part of the city, produced by the fitting out of the Cintura road at level 100, according to the 1870 project by Fermín Vivaceta. It was born by pioneering initiative of European immigrants who settle and collaborate in the urbanization of the Alegre and Concepción hills.

It represents a typical manifestation of Industrial Heritage associated with the topographic configuration of Valparaíso and its urban historical development.
