Rio das Ostras is a Brazilian municipality of the Baixadas Litorânea, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The best known beaches are: Turtle Beach, Centro Beach, Bosque Beach and Costazul. In the latter there is the possibility of surfing. One of the most visited spots in the municipality is Praça da Baleia, at the end of Costazul beach. In this square there is a statue of humpback whale carved in bronze.
The history of Rio das Ostras is lost in the middle of 1575, as evidenced by reports of ancient navigators passing through this region.
