Puntarenas is a province of Costa Rica, located in its west zone and covering most of the country's Pacific coast. It borders the provinces of Guanacaste, San Jose and Panama. Isla del Coco is part of the province.



Its capital is Puntarenas. The town of Puntarenas is located on a land several kilometers long and about 400 m wide, flanked by an estuary on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. It is located 115 km from the capital.



In general, the province is characterized by a hot, humid, tropical humid climate, with maximum temperatures around 34 ° C and minimum temperatures that rarely fall below 20 ° C. The historical temperature mark is 17 ° C and 42 ° C, the latter also representing the highest temperature recorded in Costa Rica. The vegetation of the province corresponds to this climate zone and is characterized by palm trees, African palm trees and other trees typical of the warm zones. However, there are also more temperate areas such as the Monteverde region, known for being home to many immigrants of conservative religious ideologies, especially from the United States.



One of the main tourist attractions of the city is Paseo de los Turistas, which is a kind of pedestrian avenue that borders the ocean and where all kinds of businesses are located: hotels, bars, ice cream shops, night clubs etc. Also in this province are the Marine Historical Museum and the Marine Park, which is very recent in the city.



This province offers tourists sun, sand, tropical beaches, fun, parties, music and great food. Here you will find Manuel Antonio National Park, with impressive white sand beaches and tropical rainforest, Corcovado National Park, Monteverde Cloud Forest Private Reserve, known habitat for golden frog species and Ballena Marine National Park.
