Tourist points
You can visit the so-called "Marble Caves", rock formations caused by wind and water erosion, especially the Marble Cathedral. From the city, and via route X-728, you can also access the Explorers Valley and Laguna San Rafael National Park, allowing you to enjoy rainforests, waterfalls, mountains and hanging glaciers, and visit the region's biggest attraction, the Glacier of the Explorers, which descends directly from the Northern Ice Fields. Several travel agencies offer lake navigation services and a visit to the glacier, which includes an ice trek.
Main tourist points
The newly built 77-km Explorers Way, a fantastic scenic road leading from the city to Explorers Bay, has opened up many possibilities in the region. This windy road full of glaciers, rivers and lakes is absolutely stunning and is the gateway to visit the mighty Explorers Glacier where incredible ice rides are possible.
Due to this road, Puerto Río Tranquilo has become the new hub for visiting the San Rafael National Park of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and its famous San Rafael Lagoon and Glacier. The combination of driving the Path of Explorers, admiring the spectacular scenery, sailing from the end of the road to Laguna San Rafael, gazing at this sweeping glacier and experiencing the thunderous noise and tsunami-like waves when the ice falls makes it all a very enjoyable experience. Special.
Due to factors such as altitude, terrain typology and lack of mobile network coverage, the risk associated with mountaineering or a mountain excursion is higher. Travelers are advised to engage in such activities, to contact the nearest police station (carabineros) from the tour site and to present a map of the route they will take on the mountain.
It is a small town on the western bank of Lake General Carrera, in the Aysén Region, Chile.
It is located on the shores of majestic General Carrera Lake, but it is a place where every tourist has to stop. Why?? The answer is simple ... This place has a lot of extraordinary activities from a boat or kayak trip to the Marble Chapels or Marble Chapels. where thousands of years of wind and water erosion have resulted in a masterpiece of natural art.
Puerto Tranquilo has a limited supply of services given its isolation situation. The only mobile phone antenna that has a signal is from Entel. There is a rural station and a police station, a gas station, hostels, camping and some commercial services.
